During Scleroderma Awareness Month, Cure Crew members around the country spread scleroderma awareness and raised funds for a cure in creative ways.

Sarah and her business partners at Toni remembered her aunt Margaret, who recently died from scleroderma. She sold a purple scrunchie and donated 50% of sales to the SRF. In honor of Scleroderma Awareness Month, Sarah also created a special #SaySCLERODERMA scrunchie. She sold these throughout the month of June and donated 15% of all sales on the website to the SRF.

Beth, co-owner of The Grove Wine Bar restaurants in the Austin, TX, invited people to dine at any of her four restaurants on June 28th, World Scleroderma Day. She donated 10% of the net sales to the SRF. She also encouraged those unable to join to make tribute donations online to the SRF, in honor of her mother Betty who passed from scleroderma in 2009. This fundraiser is one of many from Beth; she and her husband hosted golf tournaments for many years.

When fitness teacher Jamie discovered that her friend was recently diagnosed with scleroderma, she jumped into action. Jamie created a special fundraising workout session to raise awareness and funds. The class exceeded expectations; the workout participants raised almost four times her original goal. Their generosity went even further when their donation was matched as part of our 2021 Research Challenge.

Together, these Cure Crew members raised over $10,000 to support SRF’s vital research programs. They helped us put scleroderma awareness in the spotlight, so that one day no one will have to ask what this disease is or does. We’re truly grateful for these incredible advocates—and for all our dedicated Cure Crew members—who help us drive scientific discovery forward so that we can end scleroderma together.
