So many ways to make a difference
The Foundations Cure Advocate Program has a long list of ways you can be involved in the quest for a cure. From a simple car wash to a major gala event, you decide whats comfortable and possible for you. The suggestions below can get you started thinking about the best way to become a Cure Advocate, raising awareness and funds for the next steps in our critical mission.
Plan a fundraiser
Almost any activity can be made into a fundraiser. You can organize a dinner/dance, hold an auction, a fashion show, or a garage sale. Sporting events are some of the most successful Cure Advocate fundraisers. Whether its a marathon, walk-a-thon, bowl-a-thon, or a fishing, golfing, or tennis tournament, hosting a sporting event is a great way to raise awareness and funds for research.
To help you with your event, gather a small committee of volunteers. Contact friends, family, and local businesses to assist with all the details. This is a great way to widen the circle of supporters to help cure scleroderma. The Foundation will supply you with any information you would like to hand out at your event. Dont forget to notify your local paper or television station to help boost participation and raise awareness even more.

Educate your friends, family, and community
By actively raising awareness, you place the need for a cure in the public eye. This can be accomplished by distributing information packets and flyerssupplied by the Foundationto friends and family, or speaking at your local church, womens groups, service club, or any other social group or gathering. You can also sponsor an information booth at a local fair or festival, or host a small gathering in your home to show the movie For Hope, about a scleroderma patient and her family. The Foundation has tapes available for screenings.
Use the media to spread the word
The media is a powerful tool that can be used to help raise awareness. Ask your local television station or newspaper to do a story about scleroderma. The story may include information about you or someone you know who has scleroderma. This is the most direct way to inform a great number of people. You can also alert a local newspaper to the time and place of your next education or fundraising event.
