Our Research Program

Scleroderma is an extremely complex and misunderstood disease. When the Foundation was created in 1986, there were no diagnostic tools or treatments for scleroderma. Research on scleroderma was almost nonexistent. The Scleroderma Research Foundation has mobilized and developed an acclaimed national scientific and medical research program focused on the highest quality, cutting edge research. The Foundation’s program is recognized for its unique, collaborative design and the high caliber of scientists involved as investigators and pro bono advisors. We have made progress in understanding the disease and ways in which it can be treated.

SRF: Focused on finding a cure

In a little over a decade, the Scleroderma Research Foundation has mobilized and developed an acclaimed national scientific and medical research program focused on the highest quality, cutting edge, basic research.

Foundation-funded scientists address multiple aspects of the disease, with investigators concentrating in each highly specialized research area. By supporting strategically focused scientific investigation in a variety of scleroderma-related fields, we hope to discover the triggers of the disease and better treatments.

The Foundation-funded Scleroderma Patient Registry & Tissue Data Bank at UCSF is helping scientists understand how scleroderma progresses in the body, by providing immediate access to high quality, highly specific tissue samples, cross-referenced to patient histories and disease conditions. As a scleroderma patient, you can help in the search for a cure by providing critically needed tissue samples for research.
