Dr. Botstein is a renowned geneticist, educator and pioneer of the Human Genome Project. He is the Anthony B. Evnin Professor of Genomics and Director of the Lewis β Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University, where he oversees research and teaching at the interface of molecular biology and quantitative sciences. He was an esteemed professor and research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for two decades. He then served as Vice President for Science at Genentech, Inc. for two years before joining the faculty at the Stanford School of Medicine, where he chaired the Department of Genetics. Dr. Botstein is renowned for his use of genetic methods to understand biological functions and systems. His insights into human gene mapping 25 years ago helped lay the foundation for the Human Genome Project. In April 2010, Dr. Botstein received the Albany Medical Center Prize in Medicine and Biomedical Research for his work on the Human Genome Project. He shares this award, one of the most prestigious in medicine, with two colleagues. Dr. Botstein is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine.
