Since its founding in 1987, the SRF has focused on building a portfolio of basic research projects that explore the multiple facets of the disease pathology. Understanding of the disease at the cellular and molecular level is increasing, and the SRF is taking the next step—exploring new opportunities that will translate laboratory advances into effective therapies to help patients live longer, fuller lives. |

The SRF is leading the scleroderma research effort by:
- Promoting collaboration and cross-institutional cooperation among scientists in a variety of disciplines, through a strategic, integrated program.
- Attracting promising new scientists to scleroderma research, through its Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.
- Promoting and maintaining Scleroderma Centers of Excellence, such as the Scleroderma Center at Johns Hopkins University.
- Bringing new technology and thinking to the field of scleroderma research.
The SRF invites the submission of grant proposals for projects to advance understanding of the pathogenesis of scleroderma and to promote exploration of innovative therapeutic approaches. Scientists who have not previously worked on scleroderma are encouraged to apply as are those with substantial ongoing scleroderma-focused effort.
